The faculty workload policy aims to provide clear guidelines and expectations for faculty workload, in line with the university’s mission and objectives. The adoption of this policy aligns with the recent revision of UNC System Policy 400.3.4, which seeks to support and recognize faculty contributions while ensuring consistent, efficient, and effective deployment and monitoring of faculty workloads across all System institutions. Each UNC System institution was required to develop specific policies and procedures implementing provisions of the System policy related to faculty workload and evaluation. A campus-wide committee, comprising faculty and administrative representatives, was convened by the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost to formalize the University Faculty Workload Policy,  which was approved by the Board of Trustees on January 18, 2024.

Each school will be responsible for developing its own workload policy that aligns with the institutional policy. The Office of the Provost will oversee the implementation of unit-level workload policies in collaboration with college/school deans. All approved faculty workload policies will be effective July 1, 2024.
